Proper surface preparation is essential for epoxy adhesion. Concrete should be mechanically prepared using a diamond grinder to remove contaminants, old coatings, and to open the surface for better epoxy bonding. Grinding creates the required Concrete Surface Profile (CSP 2–3), ensuring a clean, porous, and even substrate. After grinding, all dust must be thoroughly vacuumed before applying the epoxy coating. 

 Before applying epoxy flooring, all cracks, holes, and surface imperfections in the concrete must be properly repaired. Cracks are typically filled with epoxy or polyurethane crack fillers, while low spots and damaged areas are patched with a suitable repair mortar. This ensures a smooth, stable surface for optimal epoxy adhesion and a flawless finish. Proper repair extends the life and performance of the epoxy floor system.

 A vapor barrier is a moisture-blocking primer applied to concrete surfaces before epoxy coatings. It prevents moisture vapor from migrating through the slab, which can cause blistering or delamination of the epoxy.
